NASTURTIUMS
About - - Site Plan - - Entrance

I cannot resist a bare wall and came across this one, just crying out for a mural, in the toilet of a delightful herb garden and tea room in the hills above Ballycastle Northern Ireland.

So the owner and I came to an agreement whereby he would pay me in wonderful homebaked meals and copious cups of tea. It only took a couple of days but was a most interesting job and of course I always had somewhere to sit when I became tired.

I understand the "Toilet with the Nasturtiums" has become quite a tourist attraction on the north coast, along with the Giant's Causeway and Dunluce Castle. People are having their photos taken sitting in front of my nasturtiums apparently.

And if you are a local Northern Ireland surfer I thoroughly recommend you visit this establishment.

Drumnakeel Herb Garden and Tea Room
On the Cushendall Road just outside of Ballycastle.
First turn on the right from Ballyvoy.

Fresh Herbs; Cottage Plants; Local Honey and Jams; Herb Oils and Vinegars;
Stop and enjoy the herb garden, the sight and sound of the country
and fresh wholesome food.

And what to do whilst sitting in the little tearoom waiting for your food to arrive? Well admire all the artifacts for a start, - the old cameras, the paintings and those stone hot water bottles left as if they had just been rested there before being slipped into Jake's bed. Looking for something to read? There's a little bookcase too with everything from "Stories for Young Children" to "Concise Chemical Thermodynamics"

Oh yes and in the garden there is an ancient burial mound and standing stone too.

Open 10.30am - 5.30pm every day in the *Summer
(But not Wednesdays).

*"Summer" is from Easter to Lammas Fair

(And Jake you owe me another meal for this!)

Ask for their Tuna Melt- Lovely.

It comes decorated with all manner of edible herbs and nasturtium flowers.

This is not a stunted publicity photo but is how our food was presented (They didn't know I was to take a photo)
