Cloth 20 feet by eleven feet. Photo distorted as I was using a wide angled lens. (See bottom "straight" pole. ) This is very loosely based on a photo I found on the Internet. Purple rostra run along the bottom of this cloth hence the blank section. Unusually for me I chose a very high eyeline/horizon line. I enhanced the depth of this scene by misting over the background pillars and also darkening the ceiling beams. I masked the main larger ceiling beams with tape as I did this darkening so that I reserved and preserved the colours to make them stand out and appear to be lower than the rest. The reflected light on the undersides help this illusion too. The continuation of the hieroglyphics also shows how these go behind those main beams. |

And here's the cloth in use for a rehearsal. With Paige Hegarty as Prince Pekeo and Sean Magee (yes he's the one who makes the scenery) as The Grand Vizier. Count the pillars on the right and you'll discover an extra one compared with the top photo. We built and painted two small wings (Pillar width) to go either side of this cloth to extend it. Getting the perspective the same and also making the pillar a good fat version (i.e. lifesized) proved a bit of a challenge. In this photo you can also see more of the ceiling. |
