SCENERY PAINTING FOR THE AMATEUR MUSICAL THEATRE and PANTOMIME
TITLE - SLEEPING BEAUTY - page two
Backcloths designed and painted by Brian Willis
Performed by Bushmills Primary Players at the School in January 2006

Sleeping Beauty's Bedroom Painting is 17 ft wide by 7 feet high. 5ltr. paint tin for scale. Painted on the back wall of the school stage, and as usual at this venue, impaired by the bar of wood running right across the painting. Every time I get to this piece of wood I have to brush around it. During the production it wont be quite so noticeable as there will be lights from "front of house" which will soften the shadow caused by the top light in this photo.

A single point perspective to emphasise the bed canopy. A practical bed will be placed in front of this. I wanted the canopy to 'sing out', hence the dark background. I had visions of the princess sleeping in a garret so gave her room the strange shaped roof trusses. I had toyed with the idea of painting the turret outside the window the standard red colour, but red would have been too dominant.

The writing above the arch on the right says "En Suite"
