SCENERY PAINTING FOR THE AMATEUR MUSICAL THEATRE and PANTOMIME
BRIGADOON - page eight
Designer Donald O'Brien. Scenic Artist Brian Willis.
Sets built by Andy Bell, Donald Wilson and Alan Rankin
Performed by Portrush Music Society at the Riverside Theatre Coleraine (1998)

Wings for audience right.

Photographed in the workshop. No paint tin for scale but I think these flats were fifteen feet high.

See the bottom of these flats to work out which tree is which. I have included these to show the old saying "when painting trees don't forget to leave some holes for the birdies to fly through" When blocking in I leave these holes then put in the sky colour towards the end of the painting work. It's at that stage that I also put in the boughs which are in front of that sky. I am always intrigued that the eye happily accepts sky where in fact the trees behind would have obliterated it .
