THE CABIN
SCALE MODEL.

Here is a photo of Audience Left when the set was on stage.

I did not build a three dimensional fireplace as I had envisaged in the above model, because storage off-stage was at a premium. Instead I painted one on a single flat . An exercise in trompe l' oeil and reflected fire-light.

To be honest I do not like painting "fires" as they look so sterile. But this was to have a practical fire placed in front (an electric imitation job)

In order to give more interest to this scene I decided to infer the cabin was slightly below ground, so I "raised " the walls on two courses of boulders and put in steps from the door.
There are many tricks to give depth to a scene and in this case I used overlaps. For instance the broom is in front of the pillar which in turn is in front of the window.
