THE CASTLE CORRIDOR

Total width of this scene is 24 feet (Note 5 ltr. tin beneath picture for scale) This scene was composed of plywood flats with a canvas border of "rafters" , Eye Line/Horizon Line was one foot off the floor .

The empty picture will have a circle of "Blue Tack" on it and stuck to that will be a very flimsey (silk?) piece of material in the shape of a pumpkin. There are two names for this effect "Woofenpoof" and the more prosaic "Rat-line". Attached to the top of this pumpkin material will be a length of fishing line which will go through a series of eye bolts screwed into the flat in the dark sections. I rarely use black paint but broke the rules this time to ensure it was a good dark shadow. These eyebolts will also be painted black. The bolts will be placed randomly on the flats

So when the magic word is uttered by the actress, the stage-hand attached to the fishing-line off stage will run like the devil pulling the woofenpoof around its erratic course. I think the "woofenpoof" dates back to Victorian Pantomime.
