THE DOCKS
The Docks

The above scene consists of a backcloth with two ground rows along the front to represent the side of the ship tied up to the quay side. (5 ltr. paint tin for scale on right) This is one of those ideas which didn't quite work. I painted the ship sides ground row as a trompe l' oeil using the audiences' eye line as my scenery eye line to make the paving slabs of the dock side look "real." Unfortunately this didn't work when it came to leaving a gangway between them to get on board the ship. PS this backcloth is on its way out - getting very creased, with the paint threatening to come off.
