SCENERY PAINTING FOR THE AMATEUR MUSICAL THEATRE and PANTOMIME

TITLE - "PORTIA'S LTTER" = AN EASTER PLAY - page three
Designed and painted by Colin Hompstead
Performed by Carrickfergus Performing Arts Group at Carrickfergus Grammar School, County Antrim in April 2005

Colin and I were chatting on the phone about ideas for his Crucifixion backcloth. He said he wanted it to be night time with the cross silhouetted. But we agreed he would have to paint a lighter sky to make the silhouette visible. And just look at this amazing scene which Colin came up with. Spellbinding. Congratulations Colin,
CRUCIFIXION (size 20 feet wide by 10 feet high) For the actual performance these flats were butted closer together so the joins were not so noticeable.
Colin writes - "The halo effect in the crucifixion scene was made by masking the face and over-spraying with Christmas silver spray. The 10' x 5' plastic faced sheets were painted on the floor with boards laid right over the lower part of the scene, and a lot of very fast paint application with six inch brushes (one for each basic colour) and a spare to drag over the ‘joins’ in the colours to blend from one to the other".
