Our helicopter trip from Bushmills to visit the Galantas Gold Mine near Omagh

And here is the final product, fine black sand with minute particles of gold in it. Most of this is then shipped off in the large sacks, seen in the background, for smelting in Canada. But about 10% is sent to Morocco from which the 18 carat gold is obtained. It is this material which is then made into the Irish Gold Jewellery.

Galantas gets about 7 grams of gold out of every tonne of ore taken out of the ground..

They also get silver, and lead from this ore. (Plus some iron and sulphur)

The final product

Time for a Commercial Break!

Galantas sells this Irish Gold, not only on the Internet, but also through several well known jewellers in Ireland (North and South) plus in England and Wales.
Here's a list of retailers.

And then it was all over and time to return to Bushmills. We had spent a most enjoyable hour and half being shown round around the mine.
