SCENERY PAINTING FOR THE AMATEUR MUSICAL THEATRE and PANTOMIME

JACK AND THE BEANSTALK (Hullabaloo) Page four
Sets Designed, built and painted by Brian Willis
Performed by the Mr. Hullabaloo Children's Theatre,
at the Courtyard Theatre, Ballyearl. Northern Ireland. December 2010

THE CASTLE CORRIDOR

Above is my acrylic painting for the backcloth. It is painted on an A3 piece of smooth MDF. (420 x 297 mm.) Once the Director was happy with this image I then sent it off to Rutters in Cambridgeshire to be enlarged to 20 feet wide by ten feet high (The acrylic painting was scaled to this ratio).

Below is a photo of the resultant cloth in the process of being hung on a straining wire in the theatre. So there's still lots of creases and hooks in view. Noleen and myself for scale. Noleen is the main puppeteer for the Mr Hullabaloo Company.
The stage lighting is being tweaked hence the colour cast compared with the acrylic original.

And below is a photo taken during one of the Dress Rehearsals with Jack and the Dame discussing their predicament with Jingles the red coloured puppet.

AND THEY ALL LIVED HAPPILY EVER AFTER.
