SCENERY PAINTING FOR THE AMATEUR MUSICAL THEATRE and PANTOMIME

SNOW SCENE Page two
Designed and painted by Brian Willis. 2012

I was commissioned by Room2Room to paint two cloths to be hung in a large shop window at the Horseshoe Casino in Cleveland, Ohio, USA. The widow was a huge glass box and my cloths (Drops) were hung at either end for a Christmas display.

I painted these A3 size approximately with acrylics on MDF which I then sent to Rutters in Cambridge, England, who enlarged them and sent them over to Cleveland.

ICE CASTLE The brief was an "Ice Castle" based on the Castle I made previously for an ice rink here in Coleraine.

They asked for this Castle cloth to be suitably blurred and misty as it was to back an automaton life-sized Santa and a White Horse. There was also to be a "Wind" type sculpture that blew "snow" out of "his" mouth.

STORM The Castle was at one end of the display case and for the other we gave the working title "Storm". For this painting I was asked for a fantasy snow scene with no focal point but to include trees bent over with the wind. There was also to be a signpost giving miles from the North Pole.

That ends these two snow pages.
