SCENERY PAINTING FOR THE AMATEUR MUSICAL THEATRE and PANTOMIME

RED RIDING HOOD - page two.
Backcloths designed and painted by Brian Willis.
Performed by Bushmills Primary School PTA February 2008

"GRANDMA'S BEDROOM"18 feet by 7 feet. (2.5 ltr paint tin below window for scale.)
If you wish to print out this photo you will probably have to set your printer to 'landscape'.

Painted on a canvas backcloth. I set the Eye Line /Horizon Line at about one foot off the stage floor. The Vanishing Point for the right hand section of this painting is the mousehole under the left window! Note single flower in vase on right. That's why Red Riding Hood was bringing Grandma some more.

GRANDMA'S BEDROOM DETAIL

I try and stretch myself when painting backcloths and this time it was an excercise in "light". Both the daylight coming through the two windows and the results reflected on the beams etc but also an oil lamp on the table. Unfortunately my painting of the lamp did not "come off". Oh well you can't be satisfactory at everything. (or anything). But the lace cloth works reasonably well.

Note the two white eyes peering from the mousehole.
