GROUND ROWS AND COTTAGE |

The script called for a long ground row representing a grass verge, behind which the operators could crouch to work the metre-high puppets. Towards the end of the scene the lights are dimmed and there is an Ultra Violet scene with forest "animals". During this darkened section the Cottage is wheeled on behind the Verge so that when the lights come on again it is on view. The problem here was how to hold up a long verge and yet allow room for a truck (Cottage) to be wheeled close to it. I solved it by having French Braces on the right hand verge and a brace arrangement at the front of the left verge. Below is the sketch of my proposal which I sent to the Producer. |

And below is a photo of the two Verges. You can see the front brace by looking where it touches the floor in front of the two Verge pieces. The overlap is disguised by the central large red toadstool. (5 ltr paint tin for scale.) | |
