SCENERY PAINTING FOR THE AMATEUR MUSICAL THEATRE and PANTOMIME
SNOW WHITE HULLABALOO Page four
Designed, constructed and painted by Brian Willis.
Performed by Hullabaloo Children's Theatre, Courtyard Theatre, Newtownabbey 2011
COTTAGE INTERIOR.

Sorry, was a bit heavy handed with the jpeg compression here.

The above is an acrylic painting which I did on an A3 sized board then sent off to Rutters who printed it up to a 20 feet by 10 feet back cloth.

Best bits? The shadows, especially of the plates above the chimney.
The three colours of light on the floor.
The reflected light on the ceiling. .

Worst bits? The flames around the pot. As mentioned in a previous page, flames never look realistic in painted scenery.

Because I wanted the floor to be an important part of this scene, I made the Horizon Line/Eye line much higher than my usual.
"But is this a dwarfs' cottage?" I hear you asking. The answer is... 'it's anyone's cottage'. Hullabaloo (The commissioning company) perform all manner of shows to schools, theatres etc so they wanted a cottage which would work for other tales as well as just for Snow White.
