No pupil for scale this time - he was on holiday! So I have used a 2.5 ltr. tin of paint instead beside the arch. Photo taken under working lights - stage lights not on.
The arch is a separate flat which is held in place with a bungee rope running along the dado rail. I painted the thickness on (see the bottom which gives the game away)
I always like to hint that there is more off stage, so that's only half a painting hung in the red corridor. This set took longer to paint than usual because I had given myself too many panels. I used miles of masking tape to work on these.
Normally I avoid symmetry in my compositions but in this case plonked the church in the background right in the middle for a change.
I "pulled" the dispirit flats together by dirtying the corners where they met. I also "framed" the set by darkening the outside edges of the two wings.
