THE ARRIVAL OF THE COACH.
The coach was a single sheet of plywood (well actually three sheets of plywood.) Cut out in two dimensions and outlined with ropelights.

It looked like this. This is Davy the school caretaker holding it up.

And the electrics to make it all work looked like this at the back. - In order to get the rope lights to appear at the edges of the coach we had to thread some of them behind. Pity as it was a waste of lights.

The electrics were hardwired in places to ensure they were safe, and the whole was fed from a Residual Current Detector switch for extra safety.

The walls of this scene were deliberately painted with thick black lines and lots of shadows. The suit of armour had a shadow as did the picture. The trick was that some of the shadows were real shadows. The armour's shadow was painted but the picture and the stone blocks near the picture were real. For there was a slit in the scenery and a four inch gap between the foreground flat and the back (upstage) flat. Here it is marked in red.
