SCENERY PAINTING FOR THE AMATEUR MUSICAL THEATRE and PANTOMIME
HULLABALOO CHIDREN'S THEATRE Page four
I was asked by the same Company to design, build and paint some flats for their Fairy Story performances so, depending on which story, they can mix and match with the backcloth on the previous page.
Here are the resulting FLATS
The well

THE WELL

Myself (beard) and Ian, a member of the Hullabaloo Children's Interactive Theatre company who commissioned this scenery.

The Well is free standing with hinged French braces at the back for support.

Cottage

THE COTTAGE

The half door sections open and close.

A free standing piece with two French Braces at the back for support.

Noleen and Ian, members of the Hullabaloo Children's Theatre, pose in "their" cottage.

Because of the small van to transport these pieces I designed this flat to break down into two sections which are clipped together once at the venue.

Close up of cottage door Myself and Ian in the Cottage
Tower

THE TOWER

Two members of Hullabaloo stand beside this book flat.

This piece of scenery breaks down into four sections for transporting.

The door is practical and opens. (But not the top shutter which is painted on the flat. )

There is also a French brace on the left to help support. I had to be particularly careful when designing and building these pieces to take into account that there will also be little children on the set so had to ensure everything would be stable. (Note how the front face slopes backwards.)

The Cottage (see above) also slopes backwards slightly to help stabilize the flat.

That ends this section of the building of the flats and painting the backcloth. However if you would like to see "Hullabaloo" in action and using this scenery for the first time CLICK HERE .
