AN "ARENA" PERFORMANCE -
IDEAS FOR SOME FREE-STANDING PIECES

GARDEN CENTRE
Make friends with you local Garden Centre. You might be able to borrow furniture, or fencing, or a wire arch, or perhaps the odd bush or bowl of flowers.

Of course give them a free advert in the programme.

The children could make flowers and leaves from coloured toilet paper and wire from wholesale florists, or they could be cut from felt. All to be wound around the garden items.

A DOOR WITH STEPS?

Perhaps you could consider making a simple free-standing set of steps with a flat painted to represent the wall and a door frame attached for Nan and Grandad to step through.

BUSH BOOK-FLAT

Behind the picket fence could go one or more "bush" book-flats. These could be either "artisticly" painted on harboard or the hardboard could be painted with a green base colour and the children cut out leaves and flowers which are then stuck to the board.

A GROUND-ROW

This painting is done on one full sheet of 8' x 4' hardboard or 4mm plywood. However, the church tower is additional; separate and added to the sheet after painting. I usually have quite a large overlap for additions such as this.

TIP Put the bottom sheet (Houses) in front of the top (Tower) addition. The bottom overlaps the top - not the other way around. That way any top-light shadows made at the join will be minimised.
